Single-family home starts are on the rise in Calgary, according to new data released from the Canada mortgage and Housing Corp. Ground breaking for 384 single-family homes in May of this year topped last year’s total for the same month by 15 starts, and 1,649 year-to-date starts are up from 957 from last year as well.
For the last 16 months, new construction in Northwest Calgary has outpaced every other part of the city, and last month was no different with 83 new home starts.
Activity does seem to be picking up in Southwest Calgary, however, as last month’s total roughly doubled May of 2017.
Furthermore, 152 homes were under construction in Southwest Calgary through May of last year, while 286 homes are under construction through the first five months of 2018.
