Calgary Housing Forecast

Calgary and Edmonton are expected to be among Canada's strongest performing real estate markets in 2011. One national brokerage is forecasting that the average price of a Calgary home will rise 5.4 % in 2011 while Edmonton home prices will grow 3.3 %.

Calgary is racing towards having the city with the most million dollar homes. Last year, 6496 properties were assessed as having a value in excess of $1 million. Sales of high-end homes are up by 25% is some neighbourhoods. According to Richard Cho of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says prices will rise this spring after begin stable for the last few months of 2010. The city's most expensive home was valued at $20,190,000.

2010 Is Gone and 2011 Promises to be the Rebound Year

With the economy heating up, we're already seeing commercial demand growing strong. The demand for downtown office space is strong. For year of 2010, total single family home sales in the city of Calgary dropped 16% to 12,095 from 14,440 units.  2010 had the lowest sales of single family homes sales in the last 15 years.  Total MLS listings sales for Calgary and area dropped 15% from 2009, from 25,719 then to 2009's 21,789 units. It was the most lacklustre year of sales for MLS® sales for Calgary and area since 2000.
